Pakistan today has gone through six distinct periods since 3000 BC; the ancient empires, from beginning to sixth century AD; the arrival of Islam, from 711 to the late 14th century; the Mughal period, from 1526 to the 18th century; the British period, from the mid-18th century to 1947; and Pakistan now since partition and independence, a land of beauty and
splendor with its three main regions?high mountains in the north, fertile plains in the South, and desert like
plateau in the East.

For thousands of years, this junction has been a meeting point of diverse cultures, attracting traders and adventurers, pilgrims and holy men. After a couple of cut offs by some unfavorable circumstances, the country is now once again on the main tourist path to China and central Asia. The old Silk Routes have reopened and the spectacular Karakoram highway snakes through the

Himalayas, Karakoram, and Pamirs mountains, and enters china over the 4733m Khunjarab pass, one of the highest metallic border crossing in the world, is resurfaced again. The ways to new republics of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan also open from here. Now, the country with burning deserts, gushing rivers, lush green irrigated plains and snowbound lofty mountains is wholly introduced across the globe as a picnic spot for adventure and culture lovers.

History of Pakistan is worth describing. The 4000-year old history has passed different eras, richly illustrated with archaeological sites and monuments scattered across the country. Brick cities from the Indus civilization and Buddhist remains at the same time with the birth of Christianity, magnificent Muslim tombs from the 12th century with palaces, mosques and forts of the Mughal emperors of the 16th and 17th centuries are the main attractions to lure foreigners.

Its four provinces sharing borders with different countries and northern areas touching China offer unique cultures of their own. Lahore, in Punjab, closed to the Indian border is the elegant hub of Mughal architecture. Peshawar, in NWFP (North West Frontier Post) with tribesmen in turbans carrying rifles through colorful bazaars, shares border with Afghanistan. Quetta has its border closed to Iran and Karachi, with its population of around 15 million, is industrial and financial center of the country.

Best of all are Pakistan?s mountains, rivers, and deserts for the adventurers. In the north of the country, four great mountain ranges meet, offering some of the most challenging and scenic mountaineering, trekking, tours and jeep safaris in the world.

Pakistan is still unspoiled; it has lots of thing to see and to enjoy. Let?s explore it.
