Trek Details

Shaigiri peak is situated in the outmost western part of the Himalayas, next to the famous Nanga Parbat. The mountain rises steeply from the end of the southern Rupal valley to an altitude of almost 5.700 m, nearly 2,000 m above the base of the valley. East of Shaigiri peak stands Rupal peak, while in the west the great Rupal glacier is flowing down Nanga Parbat. Shaigiri peak displays an impressive pyramidal shape though overshadowed by its mighty neighbour, 8.125 m summit of Nanga Parbat, the 9th tallest mountain on earth. It is excellently visible from virtually all places in the Rupal valley. Climbed only occasionally, its base camp on 3.655 m is a popular spot for trekkers, mountaineers and shepherds. From here, you can enjoy magnificent views of the Rupal face and Mazeno wall of Nanga Parbat.

The Shaigiri peak is accessible from Astore valley,  most of the treks to Shaigiri, Mazeno pass (circle trek around Nanga Parbat) and Rupal face of Nanga Parbat start from Tarashing which can easily be reached from Astore via jeep. From the district capital Gilgit  you get to Astore by bus or a jeep.

One pleasant feature for climbers regarding Shaigiri peak is that no permit is needed and that no obligatory climbing fees are demanded.
