A super Trek on the Northern edge of Karakoram, the dramatically beautiful territory of Shimshal Valley is home to the finest trekking in the Karakoram, laying between the Karakoram highway, the Chinese border, and the Northern margin of the Karakoram Range. This is a remote area including 9 Peaks above 7000 meters, Shimshal Valley is Situated at 3200m from sea level, Shimshal is one of the oldest settlements of Wakhi People is the Hunza region, There are some of 240 households and almost 1900 of Papulation, The village was inaccessible by Jeep road until October 2003, When a new road from  Karakoram highway at Passu was constructed, The Construction of non-metallic Jeep able road has been started is 1986 and completed in October 2003. Shimshal Chapchingal Pass Trek and Climb Sonia Peak 6400m is a Similar mini Expedition and strenuous Trekking over Chapchingal Pass to Karakoram highway at Kuksil.

Sonia Peak was first Ascent made by a German Team in 1994, the Peaks name and the Climbing route was then first introduced in the first edition of the German Trekking Guide,  PAKISTAN-LAND-GESCHICHTE_KULTUR” in 1996. Sonia referring to an Expedition member’s wife. Sonia Peak is a beautiful snow peak, ideal for those who looking for small peaks to Climb.

Itinerary

Day 1Islamabad

Arrival at Islamabad and transfer to hotel, after taking some rest at the hotel we drive to Alpine Club of Pakistan for briefing, City tour of Old City in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Rawalpindi is lively bustling City with the crowded streets and colorful bazaars, though it lacks the grand monuments, The bazaar should appeal to anyone with the desire to see the real Pakistan. Islamabad is the new Capital 36 years old well-planed City of Pakistan is lush green in the footsteps of Potohar hills. We shall Visit Faisal Mosque, Shakarparian Garden with a visit to Lok Versa, Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2ISLAMABAD - CHILAS

After breakfast at the hotel drive to Chilas on Karakorum high way, almost 10-12 hours from Islamabad to Chilas, on we will make a stop at Besham for Lunch, Karakoram High way is the 8th wonder of the World, The Karakorum High way was constructed jointly by Chinese and Pakistanis, begun in the 1960s and finally constructed in 1976, as a link road between Pakistan and China, It is an engineering wonder, but the cost of many lives. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 3CHILAS-GULMIT (2400m)

After breakfast at hotel in Chilas, we drive to Atta bad Lake, 4-5 hours drive, We start boating to Gulmit via Atta bad Lake or Known as Gojal lake, on 4th January 2010,a massive rockslide blocked the Hunza river at attabad, A 22 Km long Lake developed behind the barrier,1-2 hours boating until Gulmit, transfer to hotel, dinner and overnight at hotel in Gulmit.

Day 4GULMIT-SHIMSHAL (2900m)

Breakfast at hotel in Gulmit, drive-by 4×4 Jeeps to Shimshal,3-4 hours drive, Shimshal is the heart of Gojal region of Hunza, Shimshal is famous for high  Mountains, This is a good place to rest and meet with the extremely hospitable locals. overnight in Tents.

Day 5SHIMSHAL-ZARDGARBEN (3800m)

After breakfast at Camp in Shimshal, we start our Trek towards Zardgarben, In about 5-6 hours of trekking up hills and crossing mountain streams and scree slopes we will reach Zardgarben, This is a good place to acclimatize. Overnight in Tents.

Day 6ZARDGARBEN-JAFARWASK (4300m)

Breakfast at Camp, Trek to Jafarwask, it takes about 4-5 hours, if we lucky, we will be able to see some Ibex on the way, this is a beautiful campsite with many flowers. Overnight in Tents.

Day 7JAFARWASK - HINDJERAB(4060m)

We start our Trek after breakfast at Jafarwask, today we will cross the Boesam Pir Pass(4600)m, The walk takes about 6-7 hours and goes through spectacular glacier country. We will be crossing some scree slopes and streams. the pass is non-technical and don’t need rope. Overnight in Tents.

Day 8 HINDJERAB-WIERBEN(3600m)

Breakfast at Camp in Hindjerab, We will follow the beautiful Boesam valley down to Wierben. here we are at the high meadows, where, during the summer, villagers bring their yaks to graze. overnight in Tents.

Day 9REST DAY

Traditional rest day for Porters, to acclimatize for next day’s Trekking, Explore around the campsite, overnight in Camp.

Day 10WIERBEN-CHAPCHINGAL VALLEY(3700m)

Breakfast at Wierben, further Trek to Chapchingal Valley, after crossing the Ghujerab river on a Local made lift or the help of ropes, we enter the arid Chapchingal gorge. Here we have to cross and recross River a few times. Rope will be provided by our Staff to help us through this part of the Trek. This may takes 2-3 hours. overnight in Tents

Day 11CHAPCHINGAL BASE CAMP (4100m)

Today we have not long stage to walk,3-4 hours, then we reach our Camp at Chapchingal Base Camp. lunch at Camp, the afternoon just explore around the campsite or we make things, for example, Rope harnesses, and other climbing stuff ready on Sonia Peak Climbing, overnight in Tents.

Day 12 - 13SONIA PEAK CLIMBING (6400m)

Today we will trek to Sonia Peak Base Camp, Only 2-3 hours walk to Sonia peak Base Camp from Chapchigal Base Camp, afternoon explore around Campsite, Next day early morning start climbing on Sonia Peak 6400m, It’s a snow mountain not so difficult to climb, basic climbing skills needed. Overnight in Tents.

Day 14CHAPCHINGAL BASE CAMP

After breakfast trek back to Chapchingal Base Camp, 2-3 hours, afternoon rest at Camp, overnight in Tents.

Day 15CROSSING CHAPCHINGAL PASS (5100m)

After breakfast early in the morning, we start Trek towards Chapchingal Pass, This is a long tough day of about 8-9 hours, we ascend over scree slopes to the top of Chapchingal Pass which is often covered in snow and ice. The decent is difficult and ropes are fixed, after a long day we will reach our camp site at Kuksel Valley, Overnight in Tents

Day 16 KUKSEL VALLEY-GULMIT (2400m)

After breakfast trek to the Karakoram, High2-3 hours walk, where we meet our Jeeps or Van, Drive to Gulmit,2-3 hours, overnight at Hotel in Gulmit.

Day 17GULMIT-KARIMABAD (2500m)

After breakfast We will start our boating on Attabad lake, After 1-2 hours of boating we will reach Attabad, further drive to Karimabad, Transfer to hotel, afternoon Visit local bazaar, and some walk around Village, visit some local houses, meet local people from Hunza, see the real Culture of Hunzukuz, evening back to the hotel, dinner, and overnight at hotel.

Day 18KARIMABAD (2500m)

Early in the morning drive to Duiker, for the sun rising on the top of some famous peaks in Hunza and Nagar Valleys, One of the best bird View of Hunza and Nagar from Duiker, open-air breakfast at Eagle Nest hotel Duiker, Drive back to Karimabad, We will take you to the 700 years old Baltit Fort, The old residence of Mir of Hunza, Baltit on a rocky outcrop at the base of the Ultar Nala. You will also visit the Altit Fort, which is 200 years older than Baltit Fort, Evening you can spend your time walking in Karimabad and enjoy the view of Rakaposhi(7788m)Diran Peak(7266m)Golden Peak(7027m)Ultar Peak(7388m)Distagil Sar(7885m), etc. Evening Traditional Hunza Dinner with Hunza Culture Music, overnight at hotel.

Day 19KARIMABAD-GILGIT(1700m)

After breakfast, we drive to Gilgit about 2-3 hours drive, sightseeing at Gilgit, Visit  Kargha, A small valley with several large rock carvings of Lord Buddha, It is not known exactly when the carvings were completed, But the workmanship is definitely that of a talented master, Afternoon back to hotel, dinner, and overnight at hotel

Day 20FLY ISLAMABAD-BESHAM

Fly to Islamabad with Pakistan International Air line, or drive to Besham if the flight not operate because of bad weather, Only one hour flight from Gilgit to Islamabad, or by Road to Besham 9-10 hours, overnight at hotel.

Day 21ISLAMABAD

Free day for shopping at Islamabad or drive from Besham to Islamabad,6-8 hours drive, Dinner and overnight at Hotel.

Day 22FLY HOMELAND

Early in the morning transfer to Airport for homeland Flight, end of Services, Goodbye
