The Karakoram Mountain Safari takes you to the extreme corners of the Karakoram Mountain Valleys where you will experience a simple village culture still untouched by modernity. Get ready for an unforgettable journey through the mesmerizing landscapes of Pakistan’s northern frontier.
Our journey of Karakoram Mountain Safari begins with a visit to Khunjerab Pass, a place that is rightly called “The Roof of the World.” Located at a staggering altitude of 4,734 meters in the premises of Khunjerab National Park, Khunjerab is about 180k from Hunza and 280km from Gilgit. Khunjerab Pass is one of the highest border crossings in the world, connecting Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan with China’s Xinjiang province. As we traverse through this challenging terrain, be prepared to be awestruck by the snow-capped peaks, expansive glaciers, and the raw beauty of the Karakoram Range.
Next on our Karakoram Mountain Safari itinerary is Chupursun, a remote and tranquil village tucked away in the upper Hunza making the Pamir Mountain Range. Surrounded by lofty peaks and alpine meadows, Shimshal projects an otherworldly charm that will leave you mesmerized.
As we continue our Karakoram Mountain Safari, we reach Shigar, a hidden oasis amidst the Karakoram Mountains, about 45km from Skardu, 255km from Gilgit, and 355km from Hunza. This enchanting valley is adorned with lush apricot groves and terraced fields, offering a stark contrast to the rugged landscapes you’ve encountered so far. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore Sarfaranga Cold Desert, the Blind Lake, the Magnificent Amburiq Mosque, the Hashupi Apple Garden, and the historic Shigar Fort – an architectural marvel that reflects the region’s rich history.
Our final destination on the thrilling Karakoram Mountain Safari is Hushe via Khaplu Valley, a gateway to some of the world’s most challenging peaks, including Masherbrum, Gondogoro Peak, and K6 & K7. The awe-inspiring views and the sense of remoteness make Hushe a paradise for trekkers and mountaineers.
